I spent ten minutes yesterday morning watching my 3 year old son David eat a dry chocolate chip pancake on the living room leather sofa. It happened by mistake. We were watching morning cartoons, my mom radar kicked in and I realized he was eating on my new sofa. My first
instinct of coarse was to pick him up and bring him in the kitchen.
But something stopped me. That pancake is dry. I cooked it 30 minutes ago and he doesn’t even like butter and syrup. It flopped back and forth from his fingers to his thumb. Good thing I only know how to make rubbery foods. I thought to run off and find the video camera, but if he saw the camera he would immediately react and play
the part of a toddler eating without a permit in the living room.
Most likely it would be funny, he’s good at funny. But it wouldn’t be this. Watching him, in his underwear – legs stretched out in front of him – as he smiled at the TV and chomped that pancake was 10 minutes of pure joy.

This is how music works. Sometimes the very best moments you find are
the ones that might seem meaningless to someone else. And when your
second cousin calls to ask about your exciting career, it’s hard to put those moments to words. We start out on the road this week supporting the amazing Trisha Yearwood and I’m sure there will be a lot of pancake moments in the next few weeks – at home and on the road. I promise to bring the video camera with me and try to capture as many of them as I can.

Be Well, Lori

Hi Lori!! I always love hearing your stories & reading your blogs!! Keep 'em comin'! I can tell you're such a loving mother to your children. It shows in your songwriting too. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with all of us. Your music just blows me away, I've cried during some of your songs, and laughed too. I relate to so many of them so well because I grew up in a town of 1,600 and can relate to the small town living. Your song 'Bible Song' describes my hometown PERFECTLY! When I hear your music, it's as if I wrote it MYSELF. That's how close I feel to it.....I wanted you to know that.

I just got to meet you for the first time last night at the Clearwater, FL show! I was so excited!!! Now that our meet & greet is over, I've thought of a million more questions I wanted to ask you!! I'm also a huge Faith Hill fan, it was her music that brought me to yours. Now I am a HUGE fan of both of you! Your CD is right next to Faith's in my car CD changer!!! ;-) I hope I get to see you live again soon...come back to Tampa, Florida ANY TIME!

Good luck with the tour. Continue to knock 'em dead!! :-)

Peace,Love,Happiness....

Hey Lori - I hope you can stay this "real" even when you're a big stadium star in your own right. Your amusing stories about your kids being kids crack me up - you truly appreciate all those special moments with them. I hope you have time to keep blogging while you're on the road - we fans live for it! Be well... Liz

Good for you for stopping to

Good for you for stopping to enjoy your "moments".... David is lucky to have a Mom like you who notices the beauty in the little things. Be safe on the road with Trisha and have fun. I can't wait for videos and updates from the road...Many Blessings...

Hey Lori,
I wish you every good thing on the road...I for one, LOVE LOVE the opening acts of any show I go to....it sets the mood and is OH SOOO SPECIAL. Do not for one mili-second think it won't rock.
I love hearing from you in your blog. I listen to your music every day and hope to see you perform live someday. You so inspire me to write and sing and play. Today I rec'd a letter from a cancer patient that I help out from time to time and she told me she "meditates to my CD". It's a "4-covers-1-original-song mix" I recorded in my basement so I that could get a gig. Thank you God...for pancake moments and YOU!
